Fettes Active Netball Camp

It’s Your Place For Fun

22 to 26 July 2024

Netball is a fun, social sport that anyone can play, regardless of gender, age, ability or skill and we would love to welcome your child to our camp, where they will meet children from a variety of schools while developing their skills and building their confidence.

Led by Hendrik Lessing, Head of Netball at Fettes College, the camp will be held from 14th to 18th August and is for 9-14 year-olds.

Camp
Ethos

Hendrik and his team are strong believers in teaching children the importance of humility, respect and sportsmanship within a team environment, so by the end of the week’s camp your child will not only have developed their core netball skills but will also have learned many important values associated with sport.

The camp is designed to be high energy and fun with lots of interaction including team challenges, micro skills sessions, balance and coordination and game play. Players’ confidence will grow throughout the week through the development and improvement of their core netball skills as well as receiving specialist instruction from high performance international coaches.

Head Coach
Hendrik Lessing

Born and raised in Durban, South Africa, Hendrik practically grew up next to netball courts. Initially a basketball player, he switched to netball at a young age and played in local leagues. His passion for netball slowly grew and it wasn’t long till he was selected to represent the senior provincial team at the national championships at the age of 15.

He represented his province on multiple occasions over the next two decades and eventually transitioned down the coaching path. He has worked his way through the South African Coaching Framework, obtaining his Level 2 Coaching badge. In 2014 he was given his first opportunity to coach at a provincial level at the South African National Championships and over the next 6 years would go onto coach several age group and senior Ladies, Mixed and Men’s teams to medals at the South African National Championships.

In 2021 he moved over to the UK to further his netball coaching career and is currently the Head of Netball at Fettes College. In 2022 he was selected to play and coach the first ever Scottish Men’s national netball team and captained the side to a 3rd place finish at the most recent UK Men’s National Championships in Loughborough. Besides his professional playing and coaching career, Hendrik has coached hundreds of boys and girls from grass roots through to high school level, having coached at one of the top primary schools in south Africa for 8 years, where he also established his own netball academy. His passion for coaching is contagious and he looks forward to sharing his knowledge even further.
